Collaboration with cities
The Hyvän arjen rakentajat (Builders of the Everyday) programme is expanding to new cities. Cities can apply to join the programme.
A commitment to a shared vision and to co-development
Cities that join are expected to commit to eight shared elements, which form the foundation of the programme in each area.
- Defining a shared situational picture
- Defining the societal challenge and delimiting the area
- Baseline data and a commitment to monitoring societal impact
- The programme structures and naming the responsible parties
- Agreeing on steering-group work
- Premises for the programme’s activities
- Support in the programme’s communications
- A commitment to the 20% own-contribution share of the funding
The stages of joining the programme
Preparing the Hyvän arjen rakentajat programme involves several stages. From preparation to launching the activities takes about a year.
Careful groundwork ensures that the programme brings significant benefit to the area and that the areas and actors taking part are committed to long-term collaboration.
We identify the cities or areas where residents’ need for support and the trend of polarisation are greatest.
We begin negotiations with a potential partner municipality or area and hear their views on carrying out the programme.
We go through the principles of the programme and what the city needs to commit to.
We estimate the resources the programme will require.
We delimit the area — which district or area the programme will focus on.
We gather more detailed area data and listen to the area’s residents.
We select the organisations that will take part, launch co-design, shape the services and choose who will deliver them.
We compile the application and build the impact model.
We confirm the funding.
We launch the activities.

Tell us about your city and the area where you see a need for collaboration. We’ll have a conversation with you about whether the programme suits your area and about the next steps of preparing it together.
